Luna takes the lead

Dark auburn hair, the colour of old claret held up to a candle, is what people remember first about Luna. After that come the brown eyes, direct and amused, and a curvy figure, 171 cm tall, that she dresses with bold, modern glamour: sharp tailoring, a single statement earring, a white dress when everyone else is in black. She walks into Mayfair's grander rooms as though she had designed the lighting herself, and nobody has ever suggested otherwise.

Independence is her defining quality. Luna has opinions, shares them with warmth rather than force, and is refreshingly unimpressed by anything that is merely expensive. She speaks fluent English with a lively, expressive rhythm. Her passions are sensory and precise: she tastes wine seriously, scribbling notes on the back of a receipt, photographs hands and old shopfronts, and goes to the theatre as often as her diary allows, preferring new writing to safe revivals. She is excellent company for anyone who enjoys a spirited debate.

Mayfair is home, and she knows exactly which doors to push. One of her favourite evenings starts with a browse along the shelves at Hedonism Wines on Davies Street, choosing a bottle to take back to the hotel, followed by dinner at Sketch on Conduit Street, where the rooms are as theatrical as anything on a West End stage. Later, a short walk down New Bond Street, the shop windows still blazing, brings you back to Claridge's or Brown's.
